Language, Confidence, and Liberation: Black August Twi Classes Begin August 29

Language is one of the clearest ways a people carry themselves forward. It holds humor, memory, worldview, and the everyday confidence to enter a room without waiting for someone else to translate your belonging.

That is the spirit behind Abibitumi’s Black August Conversational Twi Classes, beginning August 29, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. GMT. The program includes eight practical classes for people who want to use Twi in real conversations—not simply memorize disconnected words.

Learn in Accra or join from anywhere

Participants can attend in person at Jamrock Restaurant near the University of Ghana or join online by Zoom. The hybrid format makes the course useful for people already living in Ghana, people preparing to repatriate, and members of the global Afrikan community who want a stronger relationship with Akan language and culture.

Registration is 500 GHS or US$50. Half of selected organizational registrations supports approved community organizations, joining language study with institution-building.

    Confidence begins with use

A conversational class should move language off the page. Asking a question, greeting someone properly, understanding a reply, and recovering when a sentence does not come out perfectly are the experiences that build confidence. Eight focused sessions offer a real starting point for that work.

Register for the Black August Twi classes through Abibitumi. You can also watch the source announcement on Instagram and explore more language, repatriation, and cultural resources across the Abibitumi ecosystem.
